I was saddened today by the news that Joseph Helfgot, founder of Marketcast had died from complications of a heart transplant. I never knew Joseph, nor had I ever met him, but his presence was most undoutedbly felt by me. He was a true pioneer in the entertainment market research business, who chose a path that many thought impossible to travail. NRG, the dominant movie research company in the business, when he started Marketcast, was considered to be an impenetrable monopoly with a lock on the movie research budgets of the major studios. This did not dissuade or discourage Joseph who saw an opening that he deftly navigated to become initially the “alternative,” and eventually, the market leader. The industry lost a great innovator. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.
