Strange Things Are Afoot at the Googleplex
The path to success in social networking is tremendously difficult. The established players are so utterly dominant, and the services they provide seem to cover almost every conceivable need, that any exploitable niche remains, more or less, niche. Taken together, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn (the top three social networks) cover 95% of the social networking [...]

Will Facebook users embrace Timeline?
A few weeks ago a friend of mine from college quoted a wall post I left on her Facebook profile at the beginning of our freshman year of college. I read the post and was mortified. Only an eighteen year old would write such a silly comment—I was trying to convince her to watch Star [...]

The “Other” Facebook Movie
You may never have heard of the supposedly pseudo-documentary, Catfish, as it lies in the shadow of the new Facebook movie coming out today. However, Catfish may have heard about you. The movie chronicles a Facebook relationship that blossoms from a seemingly innocuous painting sent by an 8 year-old-girl. Nev Schulman, the director’s brother, is [...]

MySpace’s Facebook Status Update Sync All Part of the Plan
Interpret’s New Media Measure found that 85% of users with an active MySpace profile also had a Facebook profile in Q2. Further, 57% of those people who had both a MySpace and Facebook account had updated their status in the past month. Before this new syncing feature, users on MySpace would have to navigate away from the site in order to update their Facebook status. Now, they have the opportunity to stay engaged with their MySpace profile while also keeping Facebook updated.
